# How to use Dappier with your AI agent

Get more done with your agent · How-to · Published 2026-10-09. Canonical page: https://zeroclick.ai/resources/how-to-use-dappier-with-your-ai-agent

Dappier gives your AI agent live web search, breaking and local news, financial headlines and licensed publisher content. Each query is listed from $0.00 for Real Time Search up to $0.02, and every query draws on prepaid credit your agent buys first. Dappier sells through ZeroClick: your agent buys that credit on the [Dappier storefront](https://agents.dappier.com), from one cent over x402 or MPP with no signup or API key, then sends its queries against that balance.

## Key takeaways

- Buy credit first with `POST /plans/{planId}/purchase`: a query with no credit behind it is refused with `401`, never priced.
- One anonymous cent, bought with no registration, is enough to start on Real Time Search, which is listed at $0.00 per query.
- Publisher services cost $0.003 to $0.02 per query. A balance above one cent needs a free registered credential, and $1 of it covers 50 Benzinga queries or 100 local news queries.
- Without a wallet, your agent can create one for free, buy credit by card from $0.50, or hand the purchase to its human.

## What Dappier is

Dappier runs a marketplace of retrieval data models that bring real-time data from media brands to AI applications, and it works with any language model. Publishers syndicate their content in that marketplace and get paid when it is accessed. Its APIs deliver up-to-date content, which helps an application answer from current sources without retraining.

Dappier was among the earliest platforms to earn from conversational AI through ZeroClick. Its data models come from licensed content from media companies such as Benzinga, News-Press & Gazette and Wild Sky Media. When an agent pays for a query, the money goes back toward the people who reported and published the story. We tell the story of the partnership in [Dappier × ZeroClick: premium publisher data any agent can buy](https://zeroclick.ai/blog/dappier-premium-publisher-data-any-agent-can-buy).

That suits agent work. A model's knowledge stops at its training data, while an agent is often asked about today: this morning's market, last night's scores, a claim that needs checking. Dappier answers those questions with current material from licensed publishers for a few cents or less.

An agent storefront is the machine-readable version of a business. At one URL, an agent can read what is for sale, the live prices and the payment steps, and then buy without a person filling in forms. The storefront sits in front of Dappier's API and handles identity, payment and forwarding. ZeroClick also lists it on agent indexes including agentic.market, x402scan, mppscan and zero.xyz. ## What agents use Dappier for

| Job your agent is given | Service |
|---|---|
| Answer a question about today's news, stocks, market performance, weather, travel or deals | Real Time Search |
| Read financial news and market headlines for a trading or research assistant | Benzinga |
| Brief someone on Northern Michigan news, weather and sports, including Cadillac and Traverse City | 9 and 10 News |
| Track Indiana breaking news, sports scores and local events | WISH-TV AI |
| Find parenting advice and family tips from CafeMom, Mom.com, LittleThings and MamasLatinas | CafeMom Parenting |
| Answer cat or dog health, behavior and care questions | iHeartCats AI, iHeartDogs AI |
| Find tech how-tos and gadget tips | MethodShop |

Real Time Search runs at `POST /zeroclick/aimodel/am_01j06ytn18ejftedz6dyhz2b15`. It takes a natural-language `query` and returns the answer as text in `message`.

The publisher services share `POST /zeroclick/v2/search`. Your agent chooses the service with a `data_model_id` query parameter that starts with `dm_`. These services return articles, each with a title, URL, site, author, publication date, summary and image. The [API reference](https://agents.dappier.com/openapi.json) lists every field and sends you to the Dappier Marketplace for each model's `data_model_id`; the storefront's own documents do not list them.

## Prices

Every service is covered by a single plan, Prepaid credits. Your agent buys credit on that plan, and each query draws down the balance.

| Service | Price per query |
|---|---|
| Real Time Search | $0.00 |
| MethodShop | $0.003 |
| 9 and 10 News | $0.01 |
| WISH-TV AI | $0.01 |
| CafeMom Parenting | $0.01 |
| iHeartCats AI | $0.01 |
| iHeartDogs AI | $0.01 |
| Benzinga | $0.02 |

Credit starts at $0.01 per purchase on a wallet rail and $0.50 by card. One anonymous cent covers a single 9 and 10 News query, or three MethodShop queries for $0.009. A morning briefing of 20 Benzinga queries and 10 local news queries costs $0.50.

Live prices and the plan's purchase URL are in the [price list](https://agents.dappier.com/manifest.json). Read it at call time rather than caching it; the 402 for each purchase states the exact amount before your agent pays.

## How to buy and call Dappier from your agent

1. Point your agent at the Dappier storefront. Its [agent guide](https://agents.dappier.com/llms.txt) links to the catalog, prices and payment steps.
2. Match the task to a service using the table above, or ask the free task guide at `https://agents.dappier.com/zeroclick/agent/guide?goal=URL_ENCODED_TASK`, which needs no wallet and never buys anything.
3. Read the Prepaid credits plan's `id` and `purchase.url` from the price list.
4. To buy more than one anonymous cent, register a free agent credential with the [identity guide](https://agents.dappier.com/auth.md) and exchange it for an access token.
5. Send the purchase with an `amountUsd`, and include the bearer token if you registered. The storefront answers with one priced 402.
6. Check the 402's `payment.amountUsd` against your budget.
7. Pay the challenge from your wallet over x402 or MPP, then retry the identical purchase with the proof attached.
8. Store the response's `receiptId` privately if you bought anonymously, or keep using your bearer if you registered.
9. Send the query to the service's path with `Authorization: Receipt <receiptId>` or `Authorization: Bearer <token>`.
10. Read the answer from `message`, or the articles from `response.results`. A query paid from credit carries a `zc-billing` header with the charge and the balance left.

## Example requests

Start with the purchase. This request buys one cent of anonymous credit, with no registration:

```http
POST https://agents.dappier.com/plans/{planId}/purchase
Content-Type: application/json
{"amountUsd": "0.01"}
```

The storefront replies with a 402. Its body carries `payment.amountUsd`, the `plan`, and a `protocols` block with a challenge for each rail. The signable challenges also arrive as headers, so a standard x402 or MPP client can settle them:

```http
HTTP/1.1 402 Payment Required
payment-required: <x402 challenge>
www-authenticate: <MPP challenge>
```

Sign the challenge and resend the same purchase. On x402 the payload goes in `x-payment`. On MPP, send `Authorization: Payment <credential>` instead. If you registered, add `Authorization: Bearer <access token>`, or use `ZC-Agent-Authorization: Bearer <access token>` on MPP:

```http
POST https://agents.dappier.com/plans/{planId}/purchase
Content-Type: application/json
x-payment: <signed x402 payload>
{"amountUsd": "0.01"}
```

We bought one cent of anonymous credit this way on 7 October 2026 at 23:06 UTC. The storefront answered 200 in 3,539 ms and charged $0.01, settled through Zero, ZeroClick's own payment layer for agents. The response had this shape:

```json
{
  "purchased": "<boolean>",
  "zcAgentId": "<string>",
  "access": {"id": "<string>", "status": "<string>", "periodStartsAt": null, "periodEndsAt": null, "remainingCreditUsd": "<string>"},
  "receiptId": "<string>",
  "instructions": "<string>"
}
```

Next, send a query with the receipt. This one goes to Real Time Search:

```http
POST https://agents.dappier.com/zeroclick/aimodel/am_01j06ytn18ejftedz6dyhz2b15
Content-Type: application/json
Authorization: Receipt <receiptId>
{"query": "What is the latest news on the US stock market today?"}
```

We sent this query at 23:06 UTC the same day, against one cent of anonymous credit bought the same way. It returned 200 in 1,546 ms, with the answer as a block of headline text in `message`. Real Time Search is listed at $0.00 per query, but the credit is needed to make the call.

A publisher query works the same way. It adds the data model id and can set how many articles to return and how to rank them:

```http
POST https://agents.dappier.com/zeroclick/v2/search?data_model_id=<dm_ id>
Content-Type: application/json
Authorization: Bearer <access token>
{"query": "latest developments in electric vehicles", "search_algorithm": "semantic", "similarity_top_k": 9}
```

## If your agent has no wallet

- **Create a wallet.** An autonomous agent can create one at no cost and with no signup, then follow the steps above.
- **Buy credit by card.** Register a credential, then send the purchase with `Authorization: Bearer <token>`, `checkout: true` and an amount of at least $0.50. The storefront returns a hosted checkout. Browser agents can pay it with Link Pay Tokens, or a person completes it. The [card checkout instructions](https://agents.dappier.com/payment/card.md) explain how to poll the `statusUrl` before using the credit.
- **Use a shared payment token.** A card-eligible purchase 402 carries a `method="stripe"` challenge, which your agent answers with the `spt_` credential in `Authorization` and its access token in `ZC-Agent-Authorization`.
- **Hand off to a human.** Share any Dappier page as `https://agents.dappier.com/outclick?url={URL-encoded seller page}` so the referral is recorded.

## What to know

**Credit comes first.** Dappier sells only on prepaid credit. A query sent without a plan is refused with `401`, never priced, so the only 402 your agent settles is the purchase itself. Paying that 402 completes the purchase under ZeroClick's buyer terms, which the [payment guide](https://agents.dappier.com/payment.md) covers alongside each rail.

**Penny receipts have limits.** A receipt spends only its own cent, cannot be topped up, and the remaining credit is lost if the receipt is lost. A query that costs more than a cent, such as Benzinga at $0.02, needs a larger balance bought with a registered credential. That balance can be topped up with `POST /extend`.

**Claim anonymous credentials.** Anonymous credentials that nobody claims lapse within a few days, taking any credit bought with them. Claiming it to your human's email keeps purchases recoverable. Before buying again, check what you already own with `GET /agent/entitlements`.

**Billing per query.** A query paid from credit carries a `zc-billing` header with `chargedUsd` and `remainingCreditUsd`. A delivered response without that header billed nothing. Once a query reaches Dappier, your agent receives Dappier's own status and body.

**Errors worth handling.** The [error reference](https://agents.dappier.com/errors.md) lists every code. These are the ones your agent is most likely to meet:

| Error | What to do |
|---|---|
| `bearer_required` (401) | Register a credential and retry with the bearer. |
| `receipt_credit_exhausted` / `receipt_credit_insufficient` (402) | Buy another cent for a new receipt, or a larger balance with a credential. |
| `conflicting_payment_credentials` (400) | Send the receipt on its own, without a payment proof. |
| `usage_exhausted` | Top up with `POST /extend`. |
| `amount_below_card_minimum` | Raise a card purchase to $0.50, or pay on a wallet rail. |
| `settlement_failed` | Fix the wallet, then start over for a fresh challenge. |

## Frequently asked questions

### Does Dappier need an API key for AI agents?

No. Through the ZeroClick storefront, your agent buys prepaid credit with a wallet or card and queries with a receipt or bearer token, so it needs no signup and no Dappier API key.

### How much does a Dappier query cost?

Real Time Search is listed at $0.00 per query, MethodShop at $0.003, and the local news, parenting and pet services at $0.01. Benzinga costs $0.02. All of them draw on prepaid credit that starts at one cent.

### Can my agent pay Dappier with x402?

Yes. Your agent pays the credit purchase over x402 with Base USDC, sending the signed payload in `x-payment`, or over MPP with Tempo USDC.

### Is there a real-time web search API for AI agents with no API key?

Dappier's Real Time Search answers natural-language questions about news, markets, weather and travel. An agent can reach it through the storefront after buying one anonymous cent of credit.

### Do I have to use an AI agent to use Dappier?

No. A person can sign up on the Dappier Platform, create an API key under Settings > Profile > API Keys, pick a model from the marketplace and call Dappier's API directly, as the [Dappier quickstart](https://docs.dappier.com/quickstart.md) shows. Publishers who want to earn from their content can start at [dappier.com](https://dappier.com).
